Ranch Life
The History of Broken Bow Ranch: 150+ Years of Texas Horsemanship
Long before the suburbs of Dallas stretched this far east, Broken Bow Ranch was already a landmark. Here's the story of how a 150+ year old Texas ranch became one of the most beloved equestrian destinations in the region.
Long before the suburbs of Dallas stretched this far east, Broken Bow Ranch was already a landmark. Nestled along the Trinity River in Seagoville, Texas, this land has been home to horses, cattle, and the people who love them for well over 150 years.
**The Phillips Legacy**
The ranch's roots trace back to the Phillips family, whose contribution to Texas horsemanship cannot be overstated. They were instrumental in establishing the Stock Horse of Texas — one of the earliest organized equestrian competitions in the state. The Phillips family helped define what it meant to be a working ranch horse in Texas, and their influence can still be felt in the Versatility Ranch Horse Showing circuit today.
For generations, this land served as a gathering place for riders, ranchers, and families who understood that the relationship between a person and a horse is something special — something worth preserving.
**Gay Leigh Bingham Takes the Reins**
Today, Broken Bow Ranch is led by Gay Leigh Bingham, a former high school Agriculture teacher with over 30 years of experience in horseback riding instruction and horse training. Gay Leigh has instructed thousands of riders, hosted countless camps, and competed at the highest levels of Western horsemanship.
Her connection to the ranch is more than professional — it's a calling. "To create an outdoor experience where horses help us connect to ourselves and nature," she says. That mission guides everything we do.
**The Ranch Today**
What was once purely a working ranch has evolved into one of the most beloved equestrian destinations in the Dallas area. Today, Broken Bow Ranch offers trail rides, riding lessons, summer camps, corporate retreats, birthday parties, and events for groups of all sizes.
But the heart of the ranch hasn't changed. The same Trinity River still winds through the property. The same great oaks still shade the trails. And the same commitment to horsemanship that the Phillips family established over 150 years ago still drives everything we do.
